Many people, to their detriment, seem to limit their lives to what’s going on at the moment. You’ll hear them say, “I wish I was able to invest in properties…but that’s just not me.”
This mentality will definitely not help you achieve greatness.
Unless you’ve already done your research, you likely don’t know enough yet about real estate to become an investor. But that’s the thing – you can do something about your lack of knowledge and learn more about real estate. Sometimes that’s all it takes to become a successful real estate investor. But, most of the time, it’s not that easy.
Most of the time, you need a lot of effort and focus to succeed in Australia’s property market. But if you change certain negative behaviour patterns, success will come closer than ever.
Now, in reality, you can’t just become anything you want to become. To become a pilot, for example, you have to meet certain physical criteria. If you want to become prima donna at Opera Australia, you had better be able to sing. And there isn’t a lot that you can do about your height or your voice.
But real estate is quite an open field. Almost anyone can become a successful real estate investor.
What’s stopping you then? What’s controlling that nagging voice in your head? You know, the one telling you that you’ll never be able to do it. The answer is simple: negative thinking.
Up until recently, the global consensus about the human genome was that you get what you get. Your genes define you and you can’t change them. And without a doubt, our genes do define us…to a degree. However, what we’ve learned over the years is that we can change this.
Let’s say that you have a thought. That thought creates a certain chemical reaction in your body – a reaction that goes all the way through your bloodstream. It feeds into the cell receptors in your cells and affects their functioning. So, if your cells are constantly being bathed in negative reactions, you’re changing your genome to a degree.
The same holds true for positive reactions and emotions.
The point here is that people are what they make of themselves. So, if a positive mentality can lead to positive reactions, which feed your cells with positive energy, it can change your life too.
On the subject of real estate investment, the moment you tell yourself that you can do it, you’ve taken a step towards success. Keep telling yourself this and you can build up to a successful career.
People tend to overlook things that aren’t in their perception. Now, this may sound completely obvious, but there’s more to it than that. As a human being, you’re going to have a lot of difficulty addressing “the elephant in the room,” because it’s way beyond your mental perception.
Here’s a good example of this situation. One Valentine’s Day, Dymphna Boholt came home from work to see a card attached to a balloon that her husband had left in the garage for her. She took it inside and thanked her husband. But when he asked if there was anything she’d like to add, she could only give him a confused look.
Her husband took her back to the garage and asked her to read the card again. She read it and thanked him again. It took a few moments for her to notice the large 500cc Honda motorbike that had been under the balloon and card the whole time. Her brain had completely missed her husband’s gift – because it was completely out of her perception.
There’s a valuable lesson here. If you don’t visualise things and try to perceive them, opportunities may pass you by.
The human brain works in such a way that it pays attention to the things we think about the most. Since we tend to think about a lot of things at the same time, the brain has to prioritize.
If you don’t constantly visualise yourself in a place of success, success will be harder to reach. There’s truth to the saying: “Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have.”
This applies to property investment as well. If you keep on reminding yourself of where you are at the moment, instead of where you want to be, your perception of your goal is going to get blurry. This includes the big picture and the minute details. For example, don’t just look at what you can afford today, think about what you’d like to be able to afford in the future. It’s the same for how much profit can you make on a deal, and so on.
Visualisation is essential to success.
As individuals, we influence the big picture. Purely by being ourselves, each of us radiates an energy, and our energies combine to make the world what it is. Every human being has an electromagnetic field that vibrates in certain ways, depending on its owner’s thoughts, feelings, and actions.
As people interact, they vibrate with other people, animals, plants, and the universe. Poetic as this may sound, it’s fact-based. And, more importantly, it applies to everyday scenarios.
If you think positive thoughts and focus your energy on doing good, you influence other people. Those people influence more people. You could change the world this way.
You, as an individual, can change the world. And when you change the world, you change yourself.
If you surround yourself with real estate investors who share a positive mentality and useful knowledge, you’ll learn more and be more successful. And you can influence them and teach them, too. This all contributes to the electromagnetic field that we call our universe.
As you can see, all positive change starts from the inside. You are the one who decides to bring positive things into your world. Don’t ever underestimate yourself.
Try to perceive the good around you at all times. Maybe it’s right under your nose (like Dymphna’s motorbike) but you just can’t see it.
You need to visualise yourself at the place you want to be. Do this and you’ll contribute to the universe. Change yourself in a positive way and the universe will shower you with more positive energy.
