As a single mother with two young children, aged 12 and 2, Susan faced significant challenges from the outset.

Susan’s first significant deal after joining ILRE was a commercial property – an old doctor’s surgery.
She had previously leased a property for her practice, which led to financial strain due to high rent.
Determined to avoid leasing again, she found and purchased this property with a colleague.
Despite the challenges, including a significant renovation, Susan transformed the property into a thriving clinic and an Airbnb, generating a passive income of $57,000 and an uplift of $500,000 in value.
During a lockdown in Queensland, Susan, feeling bored, researched and purchased a property without even seeing it.
This property, located two minutes from the beach, required significant renovation. After some negotiation and a strategic approach, she managed to turn it into a successful Airbnb with a full-time tenant managing the place.
This smart investment added significant value to her portfolio.
Susan’s third major deal was a joint venture with her son in Victoria. They found a property with potential for subdivision and renovation.
Despite initial setbacks, including a cosmetic renovation that turned into a more extensive project, they successfully transformed the property. The renovation was a family effort, with her grandson also contributing significantly.
The property is now a thriving Airbnb and has a new facade thanks to an insurance claim after an unfortunate accident.
Susan’s journey is also marked by significant personal growth. She now takes more time for herself, traveling extensively and spending more time with family and friends.
Her business has grown, and she plans to increase her consulting room rates and possibly expand her Airbnb operations.
Susan’s passive income has reached $112,000, and her net worth has grown to $1.8 million.
Susan’s advice to those starting out is simple but profound: “Just keep going.” She emphasises the importance of persistence and continuous learning.
